Tim Davis was born in Malawi in 1969 and is an American photographer, filmmaker, singer, songwriter and poet. He graduated from Bard College, New York State and earned a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Yale University. His photographic work delves into formal aspects of photography as well as socially engaged documentary and he is the author and subject of several books, including Lots, Permanent Collection and My Life in Politics, plus a book of poetry titled American Whatever. He is represented by the Greenberg Van Doren Gallery and Sikkema Jenkins & Co. in New York City. He was a Finalist in the Discovery Award, Arles Photography Festival 2004, awarded the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome in 2007 and the Joseph H. Hazen Rome Prize 2008. Grant Scott is the founder/curator of United Nations of Photography, a Senior Lecturer and Subject Co-ordinator: Photography at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, a working photographer, and the author of Professional Photography: The New Global Landscape Explained (Focal Press 2014) and The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography (Focal Press 2015). His book New Ways of Seeing: The Democratic Language of Photography was published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2019.
