PODCAST: A Photographic Life, Episode 114: Plus Photographer Tim Davis

In a packed episode 114 UNP founder and curator Grant Scott is in his shed considering taking control of personal circumstance, becoming a photography teacher, living outside of the metropolitan bubble, why computational photography needs to be recognised and addressed, the importance of archives and libraries, and a photographer’s transferable skills.

Plus this week photographer Tim Davis takes on the challenge of supplying Grant with an audio file no longer than 5 minutes in length in which he answer’s the question ‘What Does Photography Mean to You?’

Tim Davis was born in Malawi in 1969 and is an American photographer, filmmaker, singer, songwriter and poet. He graduated from Bard College, New York State and earned a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Yale University. His photographic work delves into formal aspects of photography as well as socially engaged documentary and he is the author and subject of several books, including Lots, Permanent Collection and My Life in Politics, plus a book of poetry titled American Whatever. He is represented by the Greenberg Van Doren Gallery and Sikkema Jenkins & Co. in New York City. He was a Finalist in the Discovery Award, Arles Photography Festival 2004, awarded the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome in 2007 and the Joseph H. Hazen Rome Prize 2008. Tim’s work is exhibited widely in group and solo shows. He lives and works in New York City. www.davistim.com

Grant Scott is the founder/curator of United Nations of Photography, a Senior Lecturer and Subject Co-ordinator: Photography at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, a working photographer, and the author of Professional Photography: The New Global Landscape Explained (Focal Press 2014) and The Essential Student Guide to Professional Photography (Focal Press 2015). His book New Ways of Seeing: The Democratic Language of Photography was published by Bloomsbury Academic in 2019.
